A Visit At the Empress

The last few Christmas’, my family has gone on a vacation getaway to the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C.  During our stay on the exclusive gold floor, we used the downtime to catch up over a game of chess, exploring the hotel archives, and of course happy hour. Along with the lovely gold floor staff, the gold lounge is the perfect location to take in the Victorian city. While you sip on their signature Empress tea from the same china set Queen Elizabeth the second dined on during her royal visit to the Empress, you can overlook the beautiful harbor. Not only is the lounge the perfect place to pick up that book you’ve been dying to finish, but it’s also a great place to socialize with other tourists from around the world.

During the trip I was able to spend some time with my little sister, Sophia. While we are 17 years apart, our age is about the only difference between us. In fact, we spent the majority of our time dressing up, taking photographs, and exploring the hotel ballrooms. Of course, Sophia’s favorite part of the trip is getting a visit from the hotel dog that waddles through the long halls and occasionally visits the lounge during tea time only to sit patiently with his big eyes in the hopes he’ll get some treats.

After a horse carriage ride through downtown Victoria on Christmas Eve, woken by carolers dressed in gowns and top hats Christmas morning, and a delicious 6 course turkey dinner at the Empress Room, the trip went by in a flash. It was yet again, the perfect Christmas getaway.
